Department Identity
The Department of Leisure, Events and Hospitality is one of the departments under the Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality and Languages (FTHL) at Makerere University Business School, an affiliate of Makerere University.
Vision
The Department seeks to be a benchmark for academic and professional excellence in the field of Leisure, Events and Hospitality business Management in the region.
Mission
To enable the future of our clients through provision of quality leisure, events and hospitality management education that generates competent, confident, innovative and graduates of high integrity.
Our Mandate
Our mandate is to undertake training, conduct research and grow knowledge and skills in the area of Leisure, Events and Hospitality business Management. The Department offers courses at various levels including but not limited to Diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Specifically, the department currently offers a Diploma in Catering and Hotel Operations (DCHO), a Bachelors in Leisure, Events and Hotel Management (BLEHM), a master’s in hospitality and Tourism Management (MHTM). All these programmes are fully accredited by National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).

- To provide knowledge and facilitate learning in the area of leisure, events and hospitality business management.
- To conduct research, promote scholarship and disseminate knowledge in the field of leisure, events and hospitality business management.
- To attract, develop and retain competent staff in the field of leisure, events and hospitality business management.
- To ensure appropriate welfare for leisure, events and hospitality management learners.
The Current Outlook
Our national and regional influence, and long-time experience in leisure and hospitality business education gives us an edge to deliver high quality education in this area of study. We continue to teach and research about leisure, events and hospitality operations and how to manage the related undertakings. We give our learners knowledge that blends well with industry practices. We continue to engage with our stakeholders and including signing memorandums of understanding with high end establishments. Beyond academics, our teaching and research has led to significant improvement in the lives of ordinary people and major leaps in social-economic transformation of our country and region.
